Sanford will have monthly food-truck event

Sanford commissioners have agreed to allow a food-truck bazaar on the first Saturday of each month, starting Feb. 4, in an effort to lure visitors and shoppers into the city’s downtown.

“Food trucks are just huge right now,” Commissioner Patty Mahany said. “Hopefully, this will bring many people into our downtown and see all the great renovations we’ve done.”

The food trucks — offering gourmet and specialty foods —- will gather at a municipal lot on Hood Avenue and Seminole Boulevard. Coordinated by TheDailyCity.com, the event should not hurt local eateries because it will be held only once a month, Mahany said. The commission approved the event permit for one year.

Sanford is the latest Central Florida city to join the food-truck trend. Orange City also agreed to host a similar bazaar for a three-month trial, beginning Feb. 5.
